From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Kanye West, victim of piracy and reported The Pirate Bay opposer, has been spotted browsing The Pirate Bay.

A seemingly innocent photo he posted on Twitter today of musical inspirations, captioned ‘Day 3’, is interesting for a number of reasons:

1) Even Kanye doesn’t use Tidal

Yep, he’s listening to Sufjan Stevens on YouTube.

2) He has The Pirate Bay open in another tab

Disseminating legitimate files? Possibly. Doing research for his rumoured lawsuit against the torrent site? Also possible. Downloading a cam vid of Star Wars: The Force Awakens? Probably.

3) Ye also surfs Media Downloader

A site that grabs videos from YouTube.

4) He’s getting that MacKeeper pop-up

A common one for Apple browsers who have been torrenting. There's also the pretty suspect 'Attention!' one next to it.

“You use pirate bay to download your album too?” one user joked after the tweet was picked up on.

“@Kanyewest if you’re gonna use piratebay at least get the adblock extension. Makes it easier to use.”

Even Deadmau5 got in on it:

But hold on, would Kanye really be so foolish as to post a grab featuring these tabs, when he’s so fervently campaigned for people to subscribe to Tidal?

"Please for all music loves. Please subscribe to tidal!!! I decided not sell my album for another week. Please subscribe to tidal" - Kanye West (sic).

Expect a series of angry, explanatory follow-up tweets shortly.
