From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Kanye West has launched a Twitter attack against US presenter Jimmy Kimmel after his show ran a spoof of an interview Kanye gave to Radio 1 earlier this week.
The spoof shows a child playing Kanye, dressed in a puffa jacket with a huge gold chain, speaking to the child version of Radio 1’s Zane Lowe.
While sipping his milkshake, the child Kanye says: “I’m a broad person, not just clothing but architecture and design…anything you can think about. Where’s the culture at? We cultured. Rap is new rock and roll. We’re the new rock stars, and I’m the biggest of all of them.”
But the cute children’s’ parody has not gone down well with Kanye, who launched an angry tirade against the presenter.
He said: “JIMMY KIMMEL IS OUT OF LINE TO TRY AND SPOOF IN ANY WAY THE FIRST PIECE OF HONEST MEDIA IN YEARS,” and continued by laying into the presenter’s looks.
In a reference to a spoof Kimmel did about Ben Affleck earlier this year, he said: “SHOULD I DO A SPOOF ABOUT YOUR FACE OR YOUR F***ING BEN AFFLECK…#NODISREPECTTOBENAFFLECK #ALLDISRESPECTTOKIMMYKIMMEL [sic].”
Kimmel responded to Kanye’s tweets on his show last night, making light of the comments and meme photographs the rapper had posted to Twitter.
The talk show host declined to apologise on air, saying: “I don’t know, I don’t understand it, the [spoof] was pretty innocuous.”
