From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Kanye West briefly reignited his feud with Drake on Twitter that started with a screenshot of a text that read: "Drake sent in a clearance request for 'Say What's Real'. Do you wanna clear?"
"Say What's Real" is Drake's song from his 2009 mixtape So Far Gone. It features a sample of West's "Say You Will" from 808's & Heartbreak. Rolling Stone suggests that the sample clearance may have been made in anticipation of So Far Gone's 10th anniversary (the full version has never appeared on streaming services).
West clearly took offence to the request, and responded with a string of angry tweets, including one that demanded an apology from the Scorpion artist for mocking his Adidas sneaker line on French Montana's "No Stylist".
'Still need that apology for mentioning the 350s and trying to take food out your idols [sic] kids mouths," he tweeted. "Been trying to meet with you for 6 months bro. I told you I ain't tell Pusha about your son. It's all love bro bro but don't play with me.
"You stay too close to be playing all these industry games bro. Sending purple emojis. When I'm dealing with mental s**t. I need my apologies now. Not through scooter either. Not through Travis."
The Travis reference was related to Drake's appearance on Travis Scott's album Astroworld, where he appeared to make a thinly veiled dig at West. Scott is dating West's sister-in-law, Kylie Jenner.
West's wife, Kim Kardashian, later stepped in and tweeted: "@drake Never threaten my husband or our family. He paved the way for their to be a Drake."
She added: "My husband is the most brilliant person, the most genius person that I know. He has broken so many boundaries, everything from music, stage design, fashion and culture and will continue to change the world."
Half an hour after his tweets began, West told his followers that Drake had called him, writing: "Mission accomplished" and adding: "All positive vibes... all love."
