Justin Bieber has reflected on his arrest seven years ago, writing on social media that it was an “unhappy” time in his life.

The “Love Yourself” singer was arrested in Miami, Florida on suspicion of driving under the influence back in 2014.

Marking the seventh anniversary of the incident, Bieber shared a photo of the arrest on Instagram, alongside a caption which read: “Seven years ago today I was arrested, not my finest hour. Not proud of where I was at in my life.

“I was hurting, unhappy, confused, angry, mislead, misunderstood and angry at god.. I also wore too much leather for someone in Miami. All this to say God has brought me a long way.”

Bieber was arrested along with singer Khalil in the Miami Beach area on 23 January, 2014.

Authorities said at the time that Bieber had admitted consuming alcohol, cannabis and prescription drugs.

“God was as close to me then as he is right now,” continued Bieber’s Instagram post. “My encouragement to you is to let your past be a reminder of how far god has brought you.

“Don’t allow shame to ruin your ‘today’ [and] let the forgiveness of Jesus take over and watch your life blossom into all that God has designed you to be. LOVE YOU GUYS WITH MY WHOLE HEART.”

Last month, Bieber denied a report in Page Six claiming that the musician was “reportedly studying to be a minister” with popular US megachurch Hillsong.
