Jedward shaved off their famous quiffs as part of their goal to raise money for a cancer charity, in honour of their late mother.

The musical duo became known for their tall hairstyles from their first appearance on The X Factor in 2009.

However, the twins born John and Edward Grimes decided to shave their hair to raise money for the Irish Cancer Society’s Daffodil Day appeal.

Their mother, Susanna Grimes, died in 2019 after living with cancer “for many years”.

At the time, the singers said in a statement: “Rest In Peace Mammy. You live on through us. We will miss you and your smile. You shaped the character of who we are. Mammy lived with cancer for many years but was always full of life!

“You live on in our memories and will always be alive in our Hearts.”

The 28-year-olds took part in the stunt on RTE’s The Late Late Show on Friday 26 March, commenting that they were sending “strength, unity and solidarity” to anyone being treated for cancer.

They then proceeded to shave each other’s hair.

“We’ve had this hair for over 10 years,” Edward said. “It’s part of our identity. I don’t think we’d be here today if we didn’t have the hair, but this is the first time we’re going to have our hair like this since the beginning of Jedward.”

After seeing his new look , he joked that he was a dead ringer for Sinead O’Connor, commenting: “Jaysus! Donate right now. Who am I? Who is this person?”

Earlier in the show, the twins performed an acoustic rendition of Cyndi Lauper’s “True Colours”.

Jedward’s efforts, along with appeals from celebrities including Westlife’s Shane FIlan, helped to raise a total of €2.5million (£2.1m) for the Irish Cancer Society.
