From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The world’s richest rap artists have been announced by Forbes – with Dr Dre, Diddy, Kanye West and Drake making the list, and Jay Z taking the top ranking.

Forbes‘s list predicts who will be next to hit the billion mark after Jay Z, who made history last week after being named the first rapper to become a billionaire.

His fortune now “conservatively tops $1bn” (£792m).

Dr Dre’s fortune clocks in at $800m (£630m) despite previous reports that he would hit the billionaire mark first after selling Beats by Dre to Apple.

Jay Z’s former protégé Kanye West takes fourth place with an estimated $240m (£190m), thanks in part to his Yeezy Adidas line

Drake’s entry to the list is particularly impressive; he’s younger than all of the other rappers by at least ten years. The Canadian musician ranks fifth at $150m (£118m) at just 32 years old.
