From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Brit Award-winning singer has voiced her ambition to follow in Adele’s Oscar-winning “Skyfall” footsteps and bag the prestigious gig for upcoming 007 movie Spectre.
While the lucky artist chosen by director Sam Mendes to perform the mystery track has not been revealed, Faith does not believe it will be her.
“In the industry that I’m in, if you ask for something or you seem like you want something you don’t get it,” she told reporters at an International Women’s Day march yesterday.
“You’re supposed to pretend that you’re cool as cucumber and stuff just comes to you, but I’m not really that type of person. I’ve told everyone that I would like to do it.”
The 33-year-old has never concealed her dream to join the likes of Tina Turner, Tom Jones and Shirley Bassey as a Bond singer.
Rumours suggest that Sam Smith, Lana Del Rey, Lorde and Faith are the favourites to take on the next big song when Spectre opens on 6 November.
Ed Sheeran ruled himself out of the running last December, telling The Independent that his voice “lacks balls”.
“I am a James Bond fan but I think the theme tune should be ballsy and I feel like if I was going to do it, it would sound a bit wet,” he said.
“I think Sam Smith would be perfect suited-up with his strong voice. I’m backing Sam. Anyone from him to Paloma Faith who does the retro thing really f**king well should do it.
“I’d love to but I just wasn’t born with the James Bond voice. You never know, I’m not ruling it out. Maybe in ten years’ time when my balls drop.”
