Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Jack Savoretti has shared the video to his new single “Candlelight”, which you can watch first via The Independent.

Ahead of the release of his new album Singing to Strangers, released on 15 March, the singer-songwriter pays tribute to the inspiration Italy has had on the new record.

The video for “Candlelight” was shot in Rome at the historic Cinecitta film studios and directed by Charles Mehling (formerly of The Brian Jones Town Massacre), following Savoretti as he reminisces about a lost love.

“I really wanted to thank Rome and Italy for inspiring this album with all the amazing cinema and music that I was brought up on”, Jack says. “It’s somewhat of a homage to Italian culture and to my father and my fathers’ father.

“It’s important to remember and celebrate our roots, and mine are very deeply rooted in a more romantic time of European history.”

He added: “To shoot the music video for the first single at Rome’s infamous Cinecitta Studios where classics were shot including Fellini’s La Dolce Vita and Zeferilli’s Romeo & Juliet was a closure to the circle of inspiration behind this album. ”

Watch the video below:

“The studio is in the basement of this huge church and the atmosphere in there was essential when recording ‘Candlelight’,” Jack says of the recording process, adding: “That track became the calling card of the album.”
