Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Almost two years since its release, Ed Sheeran’s “Bloodstream” is still picking up award nominations. At the 2016 Ivor Novello Awards, the song is up for Best Song Musically and Lyrically, running against Wolf Alice’s “Bros” and “Wasn’t Expecting That” by Jamie Lawson.

Meanwhile, the Best Contemporary Song is dominated by Grime, with Skepta’s “Shutdown” the frontrunner. Roots Manuva’s “Cargo” and Snakeship’s “All My Friends” are also nominated.

Nominated for Music Most Performed Work is “Hold Back The River” by James Bay, “Hold My Hand” by Jess Glyne and “King” by Years & Years.

The Album Award will see Jamie XX, Gaz Coombes and Villagers battle it out with In Colour, Matador and Darling Arithmetic, respectively.

Ex Machine, Pan and The Duke of Burgundy are up for Best Original Film Score, while And Then There Were None, From Darkness and London Spy are nominated for Best Television Soundtrack.

The awards, which take place on the 19 May, will also see International Achievement, Lifetime Achievement, Outstanding Song Collection, Music Outstanding Contribution to British Music, Music Special International Award, The Ivors Classical Music Award and The Ivors Inspiration Award awarded.
