From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Sofi Tukker is the band performing the catchy track that accompanies the first look at the new device, comprised of Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern.
The pair met at an art gallery while they were studying at Browns University in Rhode Island.
"Best Friend" ft. Nervo, The Knocks and Alisa Ueno was premiered on Zane Lowe's Beats 1 show and features in the official Apple advert for the iPhone X.
The band said of the track: "This song is a celebration of our favourite thing ever: friendship. It's about the kind of friendship where you can talk forever without anything in particular to talk about. Old friends, new friends, all friends!
"In the spirit of friendship, we wanted to have some of our friends hop on a verse. We've been lucky enough to travel the world this past year and the best part of the journey is the friendships we have made and the friendships we have been lucky enough to revisit along the way."
The band are finishing their string of festival dates in North America, after which they'll embark on a tour around Europe from the end of September. From then, they'll tour as the support act for Odesza through North America in autumn.
Apple says that its new phone is "the biggest leap forward since the original iPhone" and will "set the path of technology for the next decade".
It was released alongside the iPhone 8 at Apple's event in California.
The iPhone X [pronounced as '10', not 'ex'] will cost $999 and is set for release on 8 November.
