From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The "Royals" star will also feature on the seemingly dark score, singing "Yellow Flicker Beat", "Flicker" and "Ladder Song", plus "Meltdown" with Stromae and "This Is Not A Game" with The Chemical Brothers.
"Curating the soundtrack for such a hotly-anticipated film was a challenge, but I jumped at the chance," Lorde said in a statement, adding that her effort will "surprise people".
"The cast and the story are an inspiration for all musicians participating and, as someone with cinematic leanings, being privy to a different creative process has been a unique experience."
The 17-year-old was asked to hand-pick artists for the soundtrack after meeting director Francis Lawrence on set.
"I sat down with Lorde on the set of Mockingjay this spring and I was immediately struck by how she so innately understood what we were trying to accomplish with the film," he said.
Bat for Lashes, Raury, Haim, Duran Duran's Simon Le Bon, Grace Jones and Tinashé are also included on her 14-track list, which fans can pre-order from iTunes.
One song, currently titled "Track 5", has yet to be revealed, but The Lumineers are being tipped to fill the gap.
Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth star in Mockingjay Part 1, which hits UK cinemas on 21 November.
