The musician was performing her song “Sorry”, but became visibly upset when she reached the song’s bridge, whose lyrics read: “Someone will love you/ But someone isn’t me.”
A moment of emotional turmoil which fans immediately linked to her recent break up with rapper and record producer G-Eazy.
The pair, who had dated for about a year, had announced they would be parting ways on 3 July, with Halsey breaking the news on Instagram.
“I normally keep this kind of thing private but provided our public nature I feel the need to inform my fans,” she wrote in an Instagram Story. “G-Eazy and I are taking some time apart. I’m eager to continue the upcoming passage of time dedicating myself to my art and my career, and the duration of my tour. I wish him the best. Thanks for respecting our privacy at this time.”
G-Eazy had told Billboard days before the split that the duo had been working on new music, and it's uncertain whether those tracks will now ever see the light of day.
"We were just in the studio the other night and we made a couple records. She’s one of the most talented people in music," he said. "I tell her this all the time like there’s only like six of you on the planet that are this good. And she’s really rare! It’s just dope."
"I told you how much I love collaborating but when you get to collaborate with the person you’re in love with and share this experience of making a song and performing a song. And the person you’re sharing it with is that…that’s really dope."
