From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Bruno Mars has won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year 2018.

The R&B singer won the top prize at this year's ceremony, held in New York City, for his album 24K Magic.

He beat off competition from the likes of Kendrick Lamar, who was widely considered a favourite with his album DAMN, as well as Lorde's Melodrama, Jay Z's 4:44 and Childish Gambino's Awaken, My Love!.

Lamar and Lorde managed to contain looks of disappointment; Lorde gave a small nod as Mars paid tribute to the other category nominees in his acceptance speech, scolding the Recording Academy over an attempt to cut off his reminiscence about why he got into music.

Mars' win of the top prize was arguably one of the few controversial moments in an otherwise very uneventful and mild-mannered Grammy Awards, despite appearances by Hillary Clinton, Dave Chapelle, Kesha, and U2 on a floating stage on the River Hudson.
