From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Nick Jonas’s performance at the 62nd Grammy Awards alongside his brothers became one of the most-discussed moments of the night, but not for a reason he anticipated.

Viewers watching the awards ceremony – which was dominated by Billie Eilish – saw the Jonas Brothers grace the stage for a rendition of their songs “What a Man Gotta Do” and “Five More Minutes”.

Moments into the performance, though, Twitter was awash with posts highlighting that Nick had what looked like spinach stuck in his teeth.

Jonas, 27, took the moment very well, tweeting: “So honoured to have been back on the Grammy stage tonight” with the follow-up message: “And at least you all know I eat my greens.”

Many watching felt that the singer’s failure to give his teeth a little check before performing in front of millions “made him more of a human” in the eyes of viewers.

Others posted memes poking fun at the moment.

One person tweeted: “Nick Jonas is human just like the rest of us – we non-celebrities too get things stuck in our teeth and we too are not told about the things in our teeth. The only difference is it doesn’t get broadcast to the world.”

Another had a theory that his brothers, Kevin and Joe, did not tell him as “payback” for breaking up the band years ago.

Some of the biggest stars in the music industry attended the ceremony, while a number of others performed live including Run-DMC, Aerosmith, Camila Cabello, John Legend and Cyndi Lauper.

The event took place in Los Angeles’ Staples Centre. Find a full list of the evening’s winners here,
