From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Stormzy has been announced as the first headliner for Glastonbury Festival 2019, his representatives have confirmed to The Independent.

Reports of the booking flared up after a poster appeared in the window of an Oxfam shop in Streatham, which revealed the UK grime star as the first headliner.

A member of staff at the Oxfam shop then told The Independent that the poster was real and he had been asked to place it there by the shop's management. According to reports on social media, posters have also appeared near the Glastonbury site.

Stormzy himself has since posted about the news on his Instagram page, sharing the poster and commenting: "THE HEADLINE ACT – GLASTONBURY 2019, well let's be f***ing having ya then."

Glastonbury Festival said in a statement: "We’re delighted to announce that Stormzy is confirmed as the first headliner for Glastonbury 2019. The multi award-winning British MC will headline the Pyramid Stage on Friday, 28 June."

Stormzy will be the first grime MC to headline the famous music festival. The 25-year-old artist last performed at Glastonbury in 2017, when he appeared on the Other Stage.

The announcement follows the huge success of his debut album Gang Signs and Prayer, which was released in 2017 to both critical and commercial success. It became the first grime album to reach No 1 in the UK charts, and was also one of the biggest-selling albums of the year.

This year Stormzy has performed at the Brit awards, launched a publishing imprint with Penguin, Merky Books, and founded a scholarship with Cambridge University for black students. He released his own autobiography, Rise Up, earlier this month.

Fans are now wondering whether this means Stormzy is preparing to release a new album before his Glastonbury performance next year.
