From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The pop star revealed the news on social media, tweeting: “I’m so thrilled that I’ll be playing the ‘Legend slot’ on Sunday 30 June at @GlastoFest 2019. It will be 14 years since I was originally meant to appear there and so much has happened up to now.
“I can’t wait to see you all there to share this special show.”
Minogue will play the coveted tea-time slot on 30 June, following in the footsteps of revered artists such as Jeff Lynne’s ELO, Lionel Richie and Dolly Parton.
Basement Jaxx stepped in to replace Minogue after she pulled out from headlining the Pyramid Stage in 2004, with the group covering her hit single “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” in tribute.
Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, who headlined on the Saturday night, also played her signature song and told the audience: “Everyone’s paid to see Kylie as well. Shouldn’t we remember absent friends?”
Minogue told Associated Press earlier this year that it would be “amazing and very emotional” to perform on the Pyramid stage, adding that she would be “doing what I didn’t get to do all those years ago”.
Festival organiser Emily Eavis said: “We are delighted to announce that Kylie is finally bringing her show to Glastonbury. We cannot wait.”
Minogue is joined on the lineup by grime artist Stormzy, who will headline on the Friday night. Other rumoured headliners include Paul McCartney, Arctic Monkeys, Madonna and The Cure.
