Foo Fighters have revealed that they are playing at this year's Glastonbury Festival.

The US rock back announced they are to perform at the world famous music event in Somerset this June, after they were named best international band at the NME Awards tonight.

Lead singer Dave Grohl announced via a recorded video message at the ceremony tonight that he and his bandmates are to play at Worthy Farm.

The band is one of the first major acts to be announced for this year's event, after Lionel Richie was last year confirmed for the Sunday afternoon 'legend slot'.

The confirmation comes after bookmakers Paddy Power backed the Foos to top the bill along with Coldplay, Prince and Queen.

Last year, Grohl told NME that the Foos were “overdue” a Glastonbury slot after last performing there in 1998.

“It’s an iconic festival,” he said. “I just tell everyone if they need a band, we’re pretty good. They should give us a call. See what happens.”

Co-organiser Emily Eavis responded warmly to their comments, saying that the festival would “love to have the Foo Fighters back”.

Glastonbury runs from 24-28 June in Pilton, Somerset. Tickets sold out in record time last October.
