From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The ceremony took place at the SEE Wembley Arena in London on 22 October, and included performances from Liam Payne, Dua Lipa, Cimla Cabello and Rita Ora.
Collins, 36, was presenting the award for Best TV Show. As the winner announced, a trap door in the stage opened, with Love Island stars Jamie Jewitt, Amber Davies and Marcel Somerville lifted up to accept the prize.
Unfortunately not seeing it, Collins turned, tripped and fell down. She was helped back on stage by the category winners and said: "Oh my god, so sorry about that. This is live, this is what happens."
She later told presenters Nick Grimshaw and Rita Ora: "Apart from just stacking it on stage, I'm having the best time of my life. I'm kind of OK, the crowd have been amazing."
The reality TV star clearly saw the funny side and also posted a mock advert for the National Accident Helpline on her Instagram page with a picture of herself.
"Madonna done it and I done it," she said, referring to Madonna's tumble at the BRIT awards in 2015. "When I tell you I'm Bridget Jones in an Essex girl it's finally confirmed. Best and worst moment for me."
The BBC Radio 1 Teen Awards celebrates unsung heroes in the UK and hands out prizes to the best music, sport, social media and entertainment stars.
