The country legend said he will come out of semi-retirement to perform around the world, after leaving the music scene to spend more time with his family.
“Our baby is a senior in high school. My children are off on their own, so the guilt of not being there…I’m a phone-call dad now,” he told ABC’s Good Morning America show.
He added: “It sure feels good to throw your hat back in the ring.”
Brooks is the second best-selling solo album artist of all time in the US, according to the Recording Industry Association of America.
The country singer has sold over 128 million albums in the US, coming second only to Elvis Presley.
The 51-year-old retired from the music scene in 2001 to spend more time with his family.
In 2009 he announced the end of his retirement and began a five-year deal with the Encore Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
Further dates and details are yet to be released about his forthcoming tour.
