Grimes is writing “financial poetry” on Twitter in response to the GameStop saga.

Earlier this week, a group of amateur investors from the r/wallstreetbets Reddit group bought a large amount of shares in video-game retailer GameStop, causing a 700 per cent surge in the company’s value.

As a result, the share price has soared from around $20 (£14.65) at the beginning of January to nearly $350 (£256) a share on Wednesday (27 January) at close of trading, seeing the share buyers make huge profits while a $13bn (£952m) hedge fund was left with devastating losses.

On Thursday morning (28 January), musician Grimes, who is in a relationship with Tesla billionaire Elon Musk, shared her own thoughts on the news in the form of poetry.

“In the vast ocean / My tear is a drop / My dollar a single photon / Of the light of GameStop,” she initially tweeted.

A second poetic post read: “It’s not as popular right now / But Bitcoins [sic] also a cash cow / And even though she’s fallen some / I still grew my initial sum.

“I’m told that I’m on the spectrum / I catch crypto like ash ketchum / Crypto king, like Kim dot com / Get me some etherium!”

Grimes, real name Claire Boucher, has been dating Musk since 2018, and gave birth to their son, named X Æ A-Xii, last May.

Earlier this month, Grimes, 32, revealed that she “finally” had Covid-19, adding that she was “weirdly enjoying the Dayquil fever dream 2021”.
