Evanescence have said they are “devastated” after their stage equipment was destroyed by angry fans at Knotfest in Mexico City.
Slipknot were due to headline the festival on Saturday (30 November), with Evanescence and Behemoth also on the line-up.
However, Slipknot and Evanescence had to cancel their performances due to a broken barricade.
After festival attendees were informed of the cancellation, some stormed the stage and destroyed Evanescence’s stage equipment.
Videos from the festival showed fans running onto the stage and setting a drum kit on fire. The instrument reportedly belonged to the band’s drummer Will Hunt.
In response to the unrest, Evanescence wrote the following statement on Facebook: “Even though we are devastated by the destruction of our instruments and gear, we do not see the violent end to last night as a representation of our Mexican fans, or the Mexican people.
“50,000 people were there, and sadly a handful of them turned to anger and violence after the cancellation. You have shown us an incredible amount of love from the very beginning, and we will always come back for you.”
