Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Eminem verbally eviscerated Donald Trump in a freestyle that issues an ultimatum to his fans - to support the US President or him.

In the four minute rap filmed in a Detroit carpark and broadcast at the BET Hip Hop Awards, the freestyle titled "The Storm" sees Eminem pace the concrete and call out Trump on issues including the NFL, white supremacy, and North Korea.

The title and opening line is a reference to Trump's recent, alarming comment about "the calm before the storm" at a dinner with military leaders.

"Racism's the only thing he's fantastic 4/Cause that's how he gets his fucking rocks off and he's orange," he spits.

Eminem, who has been a vocal critic of Trump in the past, gave his support to NFL Colin Kaepernick, who quickly responded with a tweet which read: "I appreciate you @Eminem."

Here are some of the strongest lines:

1) "We better give Obama props 'cause what we got in office now is a kamikaze that will probably cause a nuclear holocause while the drama pops/and he waits for shit to quiet down, he'll just gas his plane up and fly around till the bombing stops."

2) "That's why he wants us to disband 'cause he cannot withstand the fact we're not afraid of Trump. Walking on egg shells, I came to stomp. That's why he keeps screaming 'Drain the swamp' cause he's in quicksand."

3) "But this is his form of distraction, plus he gets an enormous reaction when he attacks the NFL, so we focus on that instead of talking Puerto Rico or gun reform for Nevada. All these horrible tragedies and he's bored and would rather cause a Twitter storm with the Packers."

4) "The rest of America stand up. We love our military and we live our country but we fucking hate Donald Trump."

And in an ultimatum to fans: "And any fan of mine who's a supporter of his/I'm drawing in the sand a line, you're either for or against/And if you can't decide who you like more and you're split on who you should stand beside/I'll do it for you with this. Fuck you," he raps, and raises his middle finger to the camera."

The performance is the latest moment in Eminem's return to the spotlight, and has so-far received praise from names including LeBron James, J Cole, and Kaepernick.

Donald Trump has yet to respond.
