From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

It's hard to make a splash with a wedding present - really, how many varieties of cut-glass bowls can you actually get?

Especially when you happen to be celebrating the civil partnership of Elton John and David Furnish. What to buy the man who, seriously, must already have everything this good and stylish world has to offer?

Appearing on The Graham Norton Show, John revealed one of the most unusual gifts he received for the occasion, which came from his longtime friend Eminem. Of course, the duo famously collaborated for a live performance of "Stan" at the 2001 Grammys, which raised a few eyebrows at the time due to the backlash over what many perceived as homophobic lyrics in the rapper's work.

"He was accused of being homophobic by so many people because of his lyrics, which I thought was nonsense," John said of his decision to perform with Eminem, standing in for Dido who appears on the original track - he quipped that he took "the L out of Dido".

He added that they become friends after the performance and have remained to this day, "I just adore him," he added, before describing the package he received from Eminem for his civil partnership.

"It shows you how homophobic he isn't - we had two diamond-encrusted cock rings on velvet cushion," he described. "And I have to say, they have remained unused."
