From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Elton John has never been afraid to up-close with fans, one segment of the legendary performer’s Las Vegas residency shows seeing him invite the crowd on stage.
Blasting through a particularly bouncy version of “Saturday Night’s Alright (For Fighting)”, Elton proceeded as normal, inviting guests to join him around the piano.
However, on Thursday (1 March) night, one particularly fan decided to get particularly hands-on, repeatedly attempting to touch Elton and play his keyboard.
The singer reportedly told the man to “f**k off” before deciding enough was enough and leaving the stage mid-song.
Once the band wrapped the song, the crowd went back to their seats, while the perpetrator of the incident was escorted off the premises.
“No more coming on stage during ‘Saturday Night’, you f**ked it up!” Elton said while back on stage. He then proceeded to play the Lion King classic “The Circle of Life”.
Elton has since released a statement to The Independent, reading: “Last night in Las Vegas a fan put his hands on the piano keys while I was playing and continued to do so even after I asked him to stop. He then proceeded to reach over the piano and try to take pictures, completely disrupting the performance.
“I bring fans onstage every evening when we play ‘Saturday Night’ in the set, it is always a lovely part of the show where I get to meet them, shake their hands and have them right there with me while I play.
“They have always been very courteous to the fact we are in the middle of playing a song live. This guy was rude, disruptive and had no care or respect for our show and so I let him know how I felt, then left the stage until they had removed him.”
One concert goer spoke to The Mirror following the performance, saying: “Holy s*** Elton John just stormed the f*** off stage.
“During Saturday Night they brought a ton of people on stage, and one guy wouldn’t stop touching him. He went off mic and clearly mouthed ‘f*** off’ twice and then pushed his hand.
“He left, and they cut the song short and ushered everyone off stage and escorted the guy out of the building.”
Earlier this year, Elton revealed his retirement plans, confirming he will play no more live shows following a 300-date worldwide tour titled Farewell, Yellow Brick Road World Tour.
