From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Sir Elton John cancelled a sold-out US concert – just minutes before he was supposed to go on stage – due to an ear infection.

Many fans were seated in the Amway Centre in Orlando, Florida, when the announcement was made on Tuesday night (27 November).

“We’re sorry to announce that due to an ear infection, Elton John is unable to perform tonight,” a statement from the venue reads.

“The rescheduled Orlando date will be announced in the near future so please hold onto your tickets.”

The 71-year-old singer – and star of the latest John Lewis advert – was due to play the concert as part of the ongoing 300 date Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour which began in September.

Those in attendance took to Twitter, with many wishing Elton the best in feeling better but expressing annoyance at the cancelled show.

Rumours swelled that there was possibly a bomb threat on the location, hence the last-minute cancellation. The Amway Centre responded on Twitter: “There was never a bomb threat. As we have stated from the outset, tonight’s show was cancelled due to an ear infection. All other explanations are unfounded.”

Sir Elton’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, said to be his last, had already caused a stir among fans for the price of its tickets.

Some fans paid as much as £520 for tickets to the UK leg of the tour in 2019 and 2020.
