The track, featured in controversial film Fifty Shades Of Grey, sold more than 118,000 copies this week, according to the Official Charts Company.
It also set a new UK audio streaming record by racking up 2.58 million listens in the past seven days.
The previous record holder was Mark Ronson's "Uptown Funk FT Bruno Mars", with a tally of 2.56 million.
Holding firm at number two in the sales chart is Hozier's "Take Me To Church", which is spending its 23rd week in the Top 40.
At number three is "Uptown Funk" followed by The Weeknd's Fifty Shades track "Earned It", up six places to number four.
Rounding up the top five is Rihanna, Kanye West and Paul McCartney's collaboration "FourFiveSeconds".
Dance trio Luvbug scored their second Top 20 with "Revive (Say Something)" at 17 while Taylor Swift's new single "Style" climbed 29 places to make its Top 40 debut at 36.
In the albums chart, US rock band Imagine Dragons earned their first UK number one with Smoke and Mirrors.
Their second studio album surpassed their 2013 debut Night Visions' peak of number two.
The chart-topping release was self-produced by Imagine Dragons alongside British hip-hop producer Alex Da Kid and features the single "I Bet My Life".
Down one place to number two is Sam Smith's debut In The Lonely Hour followed by Ed Sheeran's X at three and Drake's surprise new album If You're Reading This It's Too Late at four.
Scottish band Texas entered the chart at number five with Texas 25, featuring re-recorded versions of eight of their biggest hits as well as four new tracks.
