From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

"Burn", by the Herefordshire-born 26-year-old, blasted Miley Cyrus's "We Can't Stop" off the number one spot last month to score her first ever chart topper.
Speaking on BBC Radio 1's Official Chart Show Goulding said her success was unexpected and "weird". She said she feels lucky that it has remained there for more than one week.
She said: "It feels amazing, but weird. Weird because I didn't really expect it to be number one, let alone for this amount of time.
"I feel very lucky, because it wasn't like I released it in a quiet week of mediocre songs.
"There are some big smashes, so I'm really happy."
The English songstress has seen off competition from the likes of Avicii, Miley Cyrus and Klangkarussell. "Burn" also kept Lady Gaga's comeback single "Applause" from the number one position.
"I didn't think I had a chance in hell about getting a number one with Avicii's song around, and Gaga, and Miley.
"I was surprised! Lady Gaga WILL be number one at some point," Goulding said.
This week Avicii's "Wake Me Up" is at number two; while Klangkarussell's "Sonnentanz (Sun Don't Shine)" FT Will Heard is yet again in third place. Cedric Gervais' remix of Lana Del Rey's "Summertime Sadness" is at four, and Miley Cyrus' s "We Can't Stop" is at five.
The top spot in the album charts was taken by Avenged Sevenfold who scored their first number one record with Hail To The King.
The rockers from Orange County put an end to Britain's Got Talent duo Richard And Adam's four-week-stand at number one with their debut album, The Impossible Dream, which is down three places to number four.
Hotel Cabana by Naughty Boy is at number two having sold just a thousand copies fewer than Avenged Sevenfold's LP, making it the second closest albums battle this year. In June just 225 copies separated Mumford And Sons's Babel and Michael Buble's To Be Loved.
The deluxe edition of Ellie Goulding's second album, Halcyon, retitled Halcyon Days, climbs 23 places to number three, while Bob Dylan's new rarities collection, Another Self Portrait: 1969-1971, debuts at number five.
