Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Elbow, The Vaccines and You Me At Six have been added to a series of intimate shows in support of War Child.
Some of the biggest names in music will appear at some of the smallest capacity venues they have performed at in years, playing to just 100-300 people.
Marking 10 years since War Child’s original Passport Back To The Bars shows for victims of the Iraq war - when acts included The Cure, Pet Shop Boys and Amy Winehouse – the events are produced by War Child, O2 and the Music Managers Forum, and are part of BRITs Week 2015.
Elbow's Guy Garvey said: "The work that War Child continues to do throughout the world is truly humbling. We were part of the original Passport shows, and to be able to participate again on its 10th anniversary is amazing. To return to The Roadhouse, our spiritual home in Manchester, just makes it even better."
Artists performing special shows include: Duran Duran, Elbow, Bastille, The Vaccines, You Me At Six and Ride.
Duran Duran will play at Wilton’s Music Hall, London’s oldest remaining Grand Music Hall, while Mark and Andy from Ride are set to perform their first UK show together for over 20 years at the iconic 100 Club.
Elbow are returning to Manchester to perform a stripped down set at the 200 capacity The Roadhouse, where they played their first gig under that name.
Bastille will play to 100 people in a living room in North London, The Vaccines: their smallest London pub gig since their debut show in the capital. You Me At Six follow their headline O2 show a week later with a show to fifty times fewer fans.
Ben Knowles, War Child's Director of Music, says: "Many people in music spoke to War Child about wanting to do something in response to the crisis for children in Iraq, Syria, Gaza and other places.
"This response from so many great acts, doing something unique to encourage fans to support War Child is incredible."
