Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Who are they? Lead by singer Guy Garvey, this alternative rock band has been adorned with honours, including two Mercury Prize nominations and a Brit Award. These Glastonbury veterans are yet to headline the festival, but their moving music seems ideal for the sunset slot they’ve been given.
At their 2002 performance, the band famously recorded the audience singing “We still believe in love, so fuck you” which inspired the title of their second album ‘Cast of Thousands’.
Garvey has said that the festival “tops up [his] soul for the year” and that the atmosphere makes it one of the greatest festivals in the world.
Garvey is a big fan of festival organiser Michael Eavis, saying that: “The beating heart of the entire festival is the attitude of the people who put it on in the first place.”
When are they performing? Elbow will be performing on The Pyramid Stage Friday evening at 20.00.
When can I catch them on TV? The set will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 6 Music, including a possible interview with the band in the hour before. TV coverage of Elbow will begin at 21.00 on BBC Three.
Why watch their set? Contrary to what some say, Elbow are not a one hit wonder. They have released six studio albums containing some beautifully crafted music.
