From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Ed Sheeran has released a new track that sees him reflect on his weight, appearance and thinning hair, leading him to ask an unnamed woman “why the hell she love me?” [sic]

In “Best Part of Me”, one of two tracks from his forthcoming album No.6 Collaborations Project, Sheeran expresses bafflement that he is considered attractive.

“My lungs are black, my heart is pure,” Sheeran sings, “My hands are scarred from nights before / And my hair is thin and falling out of all the wrong places / I am a little insecure”.

He continues: “My eyes are crossed, but they’re still blue / I bite my nails and tell the truth / I go from thin to overweight day to day it fluctuates / My skin is inked, but faded, too.”

He then attempts to grapple with the fact that he is still loved. “Why the hell she love me when she could have anyone else?” he asks. “Why the hell do you love me? ’Cause I don’t even love myself.”

The track, which features singer-songwriter YEBBA, marks the latest teaser from Sheeran’s new album, which will see him collaborate with different artists on each song. Previous released tracks include collaborations with Chance the Rapper, Justin Bieber and Khalid. Due to appear on the record itself are a number of big names, among them Stormzy, Cardi B and Travis Scott.

Alongside “Best Part of Me”, Sheeran also released the track “Blow” this morning. A jarring left turn into dingy, guitar-heavy classic rock, it finds Sheeran collaborating with Bruno Mars and country rocker Chris Stapleton.

No. 6 Collaborations Project is released 12 July.
