Dua Lipa has come under fire after attending a large social gathering during the pandemic.

The singer shared a selection of pictures to her Twitter on Wednesday (26 August) as a group of friends including boyfriend Anwar Hadid and Jaden Smith hung out together in California.

The pictures appear to have been taken at Lipa’s 25th birthday celebrations which took place earlier this week, with pictures that the “Don’t Start Now” musician originally posted from the event showing an even larger group hanging out and drinking both inside and outside a house.

Lipa’s post prompted a flood of messages from her fans, many of whom criticised her for attending a busy party with minimal social distancing seemingly in place.

“Dua u should’ve stayed..at..home in the middle of a pandemic or at least keep distance :( [sic],” one Twitter user wrote.

Another echoed: “Dua we’re in a pandemic sis.”

“Girl if you don’t stop throwing parties,” one fan wrote, while another said that it felt like Lipa was “setting yourself up on purpose” for criticism.

Some were more serious, with one social media user writing: “You should use your platform for good and promote social distancing and wearing a mask. This isn’t a good look bb.”

“Wear a f***ing mask,” another said. “It isnt that hard. It’s so selfish to people who are at serious risk if they actually get corona.”

One Twitter user used Lipa’s own words against her after finding a tweet the singer sent on 8 July in response to a fan questioning why single “Hallucinate” was only being given an animated video.

“Did you guys forget that we’ve been in the middle of a pandemic for the past 3 months???” Lipa replied, with the Twitter user resharing the original tweet with the caption: “this you?”

The Independent has approached Lipa and Smith’s reps for comment.
