Great though Drizzy’s last two mixtapes have been, you could argue that he’s a little too focused on fan service, prioritising club bangers rather than experimenting with his sound.
In an interview with the New York Times, 40 suggested that this would continue to an extent, but there will be a little more boundary pushing.
“It’s going to be what everybody expects and wants from Drake and from us,” he said. “A lot of introspection, very vivid. He’s discovering new flows, new cadences, new patterns.”
Beats-wise, “I’m trying to find ways to pull more untraditional sounds in, to push the boundaries a little further,” he explained. “Something about it should be special.”
Shebib also gave some insight into how the pair collaborate.
"I just make 50 ideas in one day,” he said. “As soon as one of those ideas gets [Drake’s] attention, we start heading that way.”
Technically the follow-up to Nothing Was The Same, though coming off the back of If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late and What A Time To Be Alive, Views From The 6 is expected sometime in 2016.
