From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Drake is currently outpacing himself in sure style; with his latest album, Views, selling over 600,000 copies on iTunes in its first 24 hours since release (via The Verge).

Indeed, the rapper's already managed to outperform his career-best; in which his last album, Nothing Was The Same, sold 658,000 copies in the US in its first seven days of availability. Video footage posted to Instagram seems to confirm that fact, showing Drake celebrating the milestone on his home turf, Toronto; where a party was hosted to celebrate Views' release.

The sales do put Views easily ahead of Beyoncé's Lemonade, which is expected to hit around 700,000 by the end of the week; though the figures are likely heavily impacted by the fact the album first streamed exclusively on Tidal before being made available to purchase; with Tidal users also unlikely to look to iTunes for their Beyoncé fix a full 24 hours after release.

So what does this strong start hold in promises for Views' future? Many, many profitable things; with the album now in good stead to hit 1M sales in its first week, and become the 21st album to hold that honour. It's unlikely Drake will come close to breaking the formidable record set by Adele's 25, however; which sold an extraordinary 3.4M copies in the US in its first week, making it the fastest-selling album of all time.

Views is exclusively available on Apple Music and iTunes until 6 May.
