From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The musician had originally been scheduled to close the festival on Sunday night, but a tweet by organisers on the morning of the performance announced that his appearance had been cancelled last-minute.
“Due to travel issues DJ Khaled will not be performing but we are working on something special that won’t disappoint,” the statement from Wireless read.
However, some fans were a little infuriated with the musician, after pointing out that he had posted – a mere 14 hours before – a picture of himself relaxing in the pool with the caption: “Still on vacation!!!!!!!!”
One small consolation, perhaps, is that current rumours suggest Drake may be the “something special” Wireless is currently working on.
It had previously been suggested the rapper might make a guest appearance during DJ Khaled’s set, with an insider telling Metro: “Drake is known for his surprise appearances, having performed at the Reading festival and London’s Xoyo last year.”
“But he’s now planning his biggest surprise to tie in with the launch of his latest album. Giggs and DJ Khaled have asked him to come out on stage with them on Sunday as they bring the festival to a close.”
