From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference."Yeah it’s pretty clear, these legs don’t work no more, but I can roll it, roll it, swiftly across that floor," sings YouTuber Heather Schouten with her own uplifting take on Meghan Trainor’s hit, "All About That Bass."
Schouten, who is a disabled wheelchair user, adapted the lyrics of Trainor’s song to put a positive spin on her situation.
“All About That Chair” has attracted over 58,000 views and counting, with the youngster from Horseheads, New York, reminding us to always look on the bright side of life.
Complete with some backing vocals and humorous choreography provided by her friend Nia Williams, the video has received nearly 500 up-votes so far.
Her revamped lyrics include: "I'm no gold medal winning track running Olympic star, so if that's what you're into then go ahead and move along," and, "because I'm all about those wheels, about those wheels, no running".
Schouten, who jokes that she is “bringing sitting back,” has also produced a parody of "Let it Go" from the soundtrack of Disney’s Frozen, and is currently studying Choral Conducting at Houghton College, New York.
Meghan Trainor's single "All About That Bass" spent four weeks at number one in the UK top 40 earlier this year.
