Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Fans of Demi Lovato have flooded the singer-songwriter with support after she revealed in a new interview that she is pansexual.

The former Disney Channel star spoke about her sexuality during an appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast.

“At this moment I want to adopt [children] for sure,” she said. “I also don’t know if I’m going to end up with a guy, so I can’t really see myself even getting pregnant.

“I don’t know. I’m so fluid now, and a part of the reason why I am so fluid is because I was super closeted off.”

Asked by host Joe Rogan whether she identified as pansexual, Lovato responded: “Yeah, pansexual. I like anything, really.”

Pansexuality – a term usually, but not always, synonymous with bisexuality – refers to sexual or romantic attraction towards people of all sexes and gender identities.

Lovato has spoken about being “sexually fluid” in interviews before, revealing last year that she came out to her parents in 2017.

“When I started getting older, I started realising how queer I really am,” she said in an interview earlier this month.

On social media, fans of Lovato offered support and congratulations to Lovato following the interview.

“Love @ddlovato you’re so inspiring and I have been such a huge fan forever. Wishing you all the best thoughts,” wrote one Twitter user.

“I clearly have never met @ddlovato, but I just gotta say I support the hell out of you,” wrote someone else. “Speak that truth. Who you are is beautiful.”

Lovato was also recently the subject of a documentary film, entitled Dancing with the Devil, which explored the artist’s substance abuse issues and her near-fatal relapse in 2018.

Lovato is releasing her new album, also titled Dancing with the Devil, on 2 April.
