Police officials in Los Angeles responded to a medical emergency call from Lovato's home in the Hollywood Hills on Tuesday 24 July.
After the 25-year-old was admitted to hospital, Live Nation announced her scheduled show in Atlantic City, which featured support from the singer Lauv, was cancelled.
"Demi's Atlantic City appearance on 26 July has been cancelled in light of today's news," a statement issued by the entertainment company said. It is currently unclear whether she will perform her scheduled dates in September and November.
Live Nation said fans will still be able to use their tickets to see Lauv on 26 July, and they would also be able to see The Chainsmokers show on 29 July as part of the Atlantic City BeachFest concert series. Refunds are also available at point of purchase, if preferred.
Lovato is now awake and recovering with her family, a representative revealed on Wednesday: "Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers and support.
"Some of the information being reported is incorrect and they respectfully ask for privacy and not speculation as her health and recovery is the most important thing right now."
The statement provided no details as to what led to the singer being admitted to hospital. The Mexico-born singer, who has spoken openly about her history of drug and alcohol abuse since 2010, when she withdrew from a tour with the Jonas Brothers and entered a rehabilitation facility.
After completing her treatment the following January, she revealed she had been using cocaine frequently and had been diagnosed as bipolar. She also said she had struggled with alcohol addiction and an eating disorder.
Lovato is one of the biggest-selling artists in the world, launching her career as a child actress on the TV series Barney & Friends before achieving a breakthrough on the hit Disney Channel film Camp Rock and the network series Sonny With A Chance.
Since then she has become a multi-platinum pop singer, achieving chart-topping hits with songs including "Cool For The Summer", "Heart Attack" and "Sorry Not Sorry", along with Clean Bandit's recent UK No.1 single "Solo", where she was a featured artist.
Last month she released a new single, "Sober", where she appeared to allude to her struggles with addiction, singing: "I'm sorry for the fans I lost who watched me fall again/I wanna be a role model but I'm only human."
Since she was admitted to hospital she has received thousands of messages of support from fans, friends and her contemporaries, including fellow singers Lily Allen, Kesha and Ariana Grande.
Ellen DeGeneres wrote: "It breaks my heart that she is going through this. She is a light in this world, and I am sending my love to her and her family."
Lady Gaga tweeted: "We should all wrap our arms of love around Demi Lovato. I am so happy you're alive. Thank God. If I know my monsters as well as I believe I do, we all wish you self-compassion and inner piece. And may you receive the love so many have for you."
Bruno Mars said he was sending "love and prayers", while singer Kehlani added: "This is a very personal moment and respected delicately [sic]. All we can do is send our best wishes and love. Addiction is not simple nor easy. You're very loved @ddlovato you'll beat this as you did before."
