From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Your support makes all the difference.Cardi B has publicly responded to a conservative columnist who suggested one of her music videos wasn’t empowering for women.
Stephanie Hamill, a video columnist for The Daily Caller, a conservative opinion and news website co-founded by Tucker Carlson, had previously questioned whether the video went against the MeToo movement.
“In the Era of #meToo how exactly does this empower women? Leftists, @iamcardib , feel free to chime in. THX [sic],” Hamill tweeted.
Along with her message, she shared footage taken from the video clip for the song Twerk, a featuring between Cardi B and City Girls.
The video, in which Cardi B appears, features multiple images of women twerking in thongs, bikinis, and body paint.
Cardi B defended the clip in a tweet, sharing Hamill’s message and writing: “It says to women that I can wear and not wear what ever I want. do w.e I want and that NO still means NO.
“So Stephanie chime in..If I twerk and be half naked does that mean I deserve to get raped and molested ? I want to know what a conservative woman like you thinks [sic]”
Just three days ago, the rapper publicly feuded with conservative commentator Tomi Lahren over the ongoing government shutdown.
Lahren, a Fox News contributor, had criticised Cardi B, writing: “Looks like @iamcardib is the latest genius political mind to endorse the Democrats. HA! Keep it up, guys! #MAGA2020”
The rapper replied: “Leave me alone I will dog walk you.”
