Nicki Minaj has denied making disparaging remarks about Cardi B’s abilities as a mother to her new daughter Kulture, after the two rappers were reportedly involved in a physical altercation at New York Fashion Week.
Video footage emerged of a scuffle at a Harper’s Bazaar event on Friday 7 September. Cardi B had approached Minaj over “lies Nicki was spreading”, according to TMZ, before the confrontation became physical and the “Bodak Yellow” rapper lunged at her rival.
During the altercation, Cardi B was allegedly elbowed in the face by a security guard before throwing one of her shoes at Minaj, who appeared to emerge unscathed. Cardi was seen being escorted out of the event barefoot, with a large bump above her left eye.
Cardi B posted a message on her Instagram the next day which appeared to be aimed at Minaj, commenting: “When you mention my child, you choose to like comments about me as a mother, make comments about my ability of my daughter is when all bets are f***in off!! I’ve worked to [sic] hard and come too far to let anybody f*** with my success!!!!”
Minaj has since spoken out and said she is “mortified” over the incident and dismissed Cardi B’s allegations.
Addressing the story on her Queen Radio show on Beats One, the rapper – real name is Onika Tanya Maraj – said: “The other night, I was a part of something so mortifying and so humiliating to go through.”
She said the crowd who witnessed the alleged scuffle was “upper echelon” and added: “The way they passed by looking at this disgusting commotion, I will never forget. I was mortified.”
She denied insulting Cardi B as a mother and said: “I would never talk about anyone’s child or parenting. I don’t care about anyone’s parenting. I don’t give a s**t and it’s so crazy to me that people always feel the need to make Onika the bad guy.
“I just want to let the world know that Onika Tanya Maraj would never, has never and will never speak ill of anyone’s child.” She added: “I am not a clown. That’s clown s**t.”
Seemingly addressing Cardi B directly she also said: “You’re angry and you’re sad. This is not funny and this is not about attacking. This is about getting this woman some help.”
