From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Cardi B has claimed that she had to hire a private investigator after her address was posted online by an alleged Donald Trump supporter earlier this year.
The “WAP” artist said in an Instagram live that her outspoken views on politics, including her dislike of the US president, had made her a target for trolls who leaked her personal information.
“They be making fun of me. I ignore them. I don’t give a f***,” she said. “Let me tell you something. S**t gets so intense that a Trump supporter posted my address and encouraged people to dox my home, to put my house on fire.”
She continued: “I literally hired a private investigator, and serve them with a warrant and arrest this boy. This boy was a f***ing teenager. His parents were shook.”
In the same interview, Cardi addressed her feud with right-wing political commentator Candace Owens, who recently branded the rapper “illiterate” after she interviewed presidential candidate Joe Biden.
“I have millions of followers. I pay millions in taxes. I have the No 1 song in this country, I have the No 1 song in the United Kingdom, I have the No 1 song in Australia, I have the No 1 song in New Zealand,” Cardi said.
“Just like I can make millions of people pop their p***y … I can make millions of people go vote.”
She dismissed Owens’ claim that Biden was “pandering” by taking part in an interview with the pop culture star, then said that “the guy you f***ing love so much, he panders too”.
She later tweeted: “This what PANDERING looks like .I will never praise no politician not even Obama, FDR or Bernie ONLY THE LORD!This is how Trump panders with black people while Candice concerns how Joe panders with me."
Cardi is currently enjoying the global success of her latest single, “WAP”, a collaboration with fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion.
