Cardi B has criticised male rappers for failing to demand justice for Breonna Taylor.

Taylor, 26, died in March after being shot multiple times by police while she slept. The police had used a “no-knock warrant” as part of a suspected narcotics investigation, but no drugs were found in Taylor’s home.

Describing the moment she learnt about Taylor’s story, Cardi told Elle: “I saw Breonna Taylor’s name everywhere, but I didn’t really know her story. What they did to her is really f***ed up. Really f***ed up.

“What’s the excuse? Why is the cop not in jail? Wasn’t what he did a crime? It’s a crime! And no apology. No apology. No video of the cop coming out crying, ‘I f***ed up.’ Nothing. It’s nothing. I don’t even know how her mom still holds her head up. Unbelievable.”

Cardi, 27, then turned her attention to male performers in her industry to say that she wished they had spoken up about her killing.

“A woman like Breonna Taylor, she was young,” the “Bodak Yellow” rapper said. “She looked like she was listening to your music. She looked like she was your fan. You should stick up for her.”

Taylor’s death was one of the driving forces behind the recent Black Lives Matter protests, along with the death of George Floyd.

Despite growing public pressure to arrest the officers who shot Taylor, this is yet to happen.

Last month, Oprah Winfrey put Taylor on the cover of O Magazine, marking the first issue in 20 years not to feature its creator on the front cover.
