From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Calvin Harris has scored his sixth number one single with “Summer”, after going straight to the top of the UK Official Chart last night.

His single sold just over 100,000 copies to knock “Waves” by Mr Probz off the number one spot.

The DJ made chart history last year when he became the first artist ever to land nine top 10 singles from one album, his record 18 Months.

He beat last week's chart-topping single, “Waves” by Mr Probz, down into the number two spot, while “Hideaway” by Kiesza also slipped a spot to number three.

The top five was completed by Sigma whose song, “Nobody To Love”, was at number four while John Legend's “All Of Me” was in at number five.

Meanwhile in the album chart fellow Scot Paolo Nutini managed to beat off stiff competition from Blur frontman Damon Albarn to spend a third week at the top of the charts with his album Caustic Love.

The critically-acclaimed record became the fastest selling album of the year when it was released last month, and has now sold more than 198,000 copies.

Albarn landed the number two spot with his debut solo album Everyday Robots, while Irish rocker Imelda May went straight in at number three with Tribal, her third and highest charting album to date.

Paloma Faith's A Perfect Contradiction was a non-mover at number four, while Britpop group Embrace have shot straight in at number five with their self-titled album - their first in eight years.
