From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

BTS fans poured onto social media with criticism for the Grammys after the K-pop stars lost the award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance to Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande, who won for their “Rain On Me” collaboration.

As of Sunday night (14 March), #scammys was trending on Twitter.

“The old men at the #scammys agreeing on using bts and harry styles for views and then not giving them their much deserved awards,” wrote one fan.

“BTS doesn't need the Grammys but the Grammys need BTS #scammys,” wrote another.

“I should’ve have seen it coming #Scammys2021 #scammys I got my whole ass excited just to BTS getting scammed by the Grammys, but congrats to Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande to best pop Duo/Group!,” wrote another viewer.

In an interview with Giuliana Rancic during E!’s red carpet coverage, BTS (singers RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook) shouted out their fans, generally referred to as the BTS Army.

“We really want to see Army now and I’m sure Army are feeling the same emotions we’re feeling, so we’ll be back with even greater music, good performances and even better music. So we’ll work hard for this next year as well and we’ll be back with great music and performances that you can look forward to.”
