From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Britney Spears has said that she is “flattered” that the world is “concerned with [her] life” in a new Instagram post.

The pop star has been embroiled in a legal conflict with her father in recent months, over the terms of the court-ordered conservatorship Spears has been placed under since 2008. The conservatorship, which is overseen by Spears’s father Jamie, controls her finances and everyday activity.

The controversy around the conservatorship has been exacerbated by a fan movement, known as #FreeBritney, which has campaigned to have the order removed. A documentary on the conservatorship, called Framing Britney Spears, was also released in February to acclaim and concern from viewers.

Spears appeared to address the speculation about her well-being in the caption of a new Instagram post, which showed a looped minute-long clip of Spears posing in front of a tree.

“So this video for Just a Touch of Rose was shot last year,” Spears wrote. “These specific takes have never been seen so it’s sort of new to me!!!! I have over 10 minutes of video for the Rose project and trust me that’s A LOT!!!!”

She continued: “Happy to share especially with a world that is empathetic and concerned with my life ... what can I say I’m FLATTERED!!! Here’s to another beautiful summer of popsicles and sunbathing!!!”

Spears has teased a mysterious rose-themed project on her Instagram for several months.

In March, Spears addressed Framing Britney Spears for the first time in an Instagram post, writing that she “didn’t watch” the documentary, and that she was “embarrassed by the light they put [her] in”.

She added: “I cried for two weeks and, well .... I still cry sometimes!!!! My life has always been very speculated ... watched ... and judged.”

Last week (9 April), Spears posted a throwback photograph of herself partying with her little sister Jamie-Lynn, actor Natalie Portman and ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake from 2001.
