Bring Me the Horizon trashing Coldplay's table at the NME Awards wasn't a 'dirty protest'

For anyone who was hoping Bring Me the Horizon's NME Awards stunt was a show of solidarity with the recent anti-Coldplay headlining Glastonbury petition, they're set to be quite disappointed.

The Sheffield rockers became the talk of the ceremony, held at London's O2 Academy Brixton, after an incident during their live performance of 'Happy Song'; which saw frontman Oli Sykes leap up onto Coldplay's table and proceed to bring the entire thing crashing down.

However, the band have now clarified to the NME that the incident wasn't an intentional dig at Coldplay, recipients of the night's Godlike Genius award. "I don't think [Oli] was aiming for Coldplay," stated keyboardist Jordan Fish. "It was just whoever was nearest, it [just] happened to be Coldplay."



"I had no sound in my ears so I thought 'Well, there might be sound out there,'" Skyes himself explained. "There weren't sound out there so when I came back there was a table, which I got on. There wasn't any sound on there, but it was a bit more energetic up there."

"You know when you know no-one is really going to care about your band if you do what you usually do," he further told BBC Newsbeat. "It was one of them things where you're going to have to make an impression somehow. It wasn't a dirty protest."

Bring Me the Horizon's live performance followed their win for the NME Innovation Award. Coldplay's Chris Martin stated he'd never heard of the band before but thought the performance was "great, very rock n' roll."
