Bon Iver end hiatus confirms Justin Vernon
'It’s the perfect platform for us to be like this is how we’re starting this new cycle, this new life of the band'
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. For a time, the future of Bon Iver looked very uncertain. In an interview with Australia’s Triple J radio while promoting his Volcano Choir album, Justin Vernon said “I don’t really write songs anymore… I really have to be in a specific headspace to even begin to illuminate an idea that would create another Bon Iver record, and I’m just not there.”
Worry no more, fans, as Vernon is set to return to his Bon Iver moniker to play a headline show at Eaux Claires Music Festival, of which he created. Not only will the band return for this one show, however; this is only the beginning.
“It’s the perfect platform for us to be like this is how we’re starting this new cycle, this new life of the band. It makes so much sense to start it here, right where it all started” Vernon explained to Minneapolis’ KARE 11.
Vernon’s last musical outing was as part of Jason Feathers who released their album De Oro in 2014. The album was a weird mix of electronics and Vernon’s swooning voice: it was met with a mixed reception.
His last work as Bon Iver was the sophomore Bon Iver, Bon Iver, the follow up to 2007’s For Emma, Forever Ago. Hopefully, with the band back together, we’ll be hearing a new Bon Iver album sooner than many expected.
