Overnight, the hashtag #BillieEilishIsOverParty began trending on Twitter because of a video showing the 17-year-old singer’s unimpressed response to Lady Gaga’s outfit choice.
In an interview about Grammys fashion with Variety, Eilish – a vegan – referenced Gaga's meat dress. Her one-word response was an elongated “Yikes.”
Gaga fans assumed this was Eilish throwing shade at the A Star is Born actor, and criticised her for not acknowledging the singer’s influence on her career.
“The one time they semi-acknowledge Gaga, but not really...... yikes to that,” one person tweeted.
But, Eilish fans were quick to jump to the singer’s defence, calling out Gaga fans for “trying to cancel a 17-year-old girl for saying she doesn’t like a dress”.
“Y’all trynna cancel a 17-year-old over an opinion, yikes that’s embarrassing [sic],” another fan wrote.
Earlier this week, Eilish came under fire from Van Halen fans, when she claimed she didn’t know who they were.
The son of guitarist Eddie Van Halen went on to defend Eilish after she was mocked for her admission.
In a recent interview, the singer also revealed that Drake, 33, has her number and texts her. Her fans berated the rapper for texting a teenager.
In 2018, Drake was criticised after it was revealed he regularly texts “I miss you” to Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown, when she was just 14.
Eilish has been nominated for six Grammy Awards. The ceremony takes place in LA on 27 January.
