Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Bestival, an annual event on the UK's Isle of Wight, has added South London band The XX to its 2010 lineup. Also new to the list of 2010 acts, according to a February 15 annuoncement, is vocalist Fever Ray of Swedish electronic duo The Knife.

Bestival is scheduled to take place from September 9 through 12. The event's lineup is already set to feature acts including Delphic, Dizzee Rascal, Echo and the Bunnymen, Ellie Goulding, Gil Scott Heron, Hot Chip, LCD Soundsystem, and The Flaming Lips.

The XX, whose 2009 album xx earned widespread praise, is currently on tour in Europe, with other upcoming engagements including the Coachella Festival in Indio, California. Fever Ray, who has also suplied vocals for Nowegian duo Röyksopp, released her self-titled debut solo album in 2009. Bestival will mark her exclusive UK festival appearance of the year.

An annual event since 2004, Bestival remains one of the best-known UK festivals despite its smaller size - about 43,000 people in 2009. The gathering is often called a "boutique" festival for its alternative acts and notably non-corporate feel.

Tickets for the four-day event are currently available; an adult weekend ticket goes for £150.
