Your support makes all the difference. It's not really a surprise: The Greatest Showman soundtrack has been revealed as the biggest album of last year, topping a list that also includes George Ezra, Eminem and Dua Lipa, according to Official Charts.
The hit album, comprised of music from Hugh Jackman's film, was released in December 2017 and spent the following year at the top of the charts, without exiting the top five once. The collection, which features performances by Jackman, Zendaya and Michelle Williams, was the year's best physical seller (CD and vinyl) in a year where streaming dominated and album sales dropped, with a combined 1.6m sales.
The Greatest Showman also boasts 2018's most downloaded single, the number three-peaking "This is Me". At the end of 2018, it was announced that the album had beaten a record previously held by Adele, spending more weeks at number one in the UK than any other album this century (24 weeks).
George Ezra had the second biggest LP with his album Staying at Tamara's. The singer-songwriter's second record features his first UK number one single, "Shotgun", and the top five hit "Paradise", which peaked at number two. Ed Sheeran, who achieved the biggest-selling album of 2017, followed at number three with his third album Divide, despite the fact that it was released back in March that year.
Rounding off the top five were the soundtrack of Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, and Drake's fifth album Scorpion. Post Malone's Beerbongs & Bentleys came in at number six, while another film soundtrack – Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper's A Star Is Born – appeared at number seven.
Michael Buble managed to get the number eight spot with his LP Love, British singer Dua Lipa was at number nine, and Eminem's surprise album Kamikaze finished at number 10.
