Your support helps us to tell the story

My recent work focusing on Latino voters in Arizona has shown me how crucial independent journalism is in giving voice to underrepresented communities.

Your support is what allows us to tell these stories, bringing attention to the issues that are often overlooked. Without your contributions, these voices might not be heard.

Every dollar you give helps us continue to shine a light on these critical issues in the run up to the election and beyond

A 15-year-old girl has become victim of an international Twitter hate mob after she was retweeted by Justin Bieber.

Last month Courtney Barrasford, from Hampshire, tweeted: "Not really a fan of Justin Bieber but his acoustic album is really good!"

This got a retweet from the man himself, prompting envious vitriol from some of his 34 million followers.

Barrasford was soon receiving messages from the star's fans- also known as 'Beliebers'- calling her a "whore" and saying "go kill yourself".

@iLaYdA tweeted at both Barrasford and Bieber, asking: "You RT (retweet) that and u don't even know I exist and I'm a belieber I can't I want to die kill me I can't AAAAH."

And another fan of the 19-year-old pop star wrote: "I am a Belieber of him since 2009 and he didn’t notice me. And you’re not even a f*****g fan. You get noticed. OMG (Oh my God)."

Another wrote to Bieber: "U notice her n she’s not even a fan. I am but you won’t notice me :) Can anyone hear me crying?"

But it wasn't all ill feeling. Some Beliebers offered Barrasford support.

@BelieberFann tweeted: "Peace & Love to you from a fan of Justin Bieber!," and @CassainityBiebs- whose Twitter biography calls Bieber and his ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez her "idols"- tweeted: "Wow I'm sorry for the way some of Justin's fans are treating you. There are some good ones tho.. I hope you're ok!"

Courtney said: "I came back from a drama class where everyone had been going on about how good Justin Bieber’s acoustic album was. So I went on to YouTube to listen to it and then put my comment up.

"About ten minutes later my friend sent me a message to say she had noticed something on Twitter. It wasn’t too bad at first. But then it started to get worse as more people found out."
